Ever since Jack3d by USP Labs came out and then coincidentally became banned, there has been a fever-fueled rampage to find remaining bottles of this DMAA containing pre workout.
Now that select supplement companies have begun litigating the DMAA ban, several DMAA containing products have come to market. Of them, OLD JACK by GenOne Labs is the nearest thing to the original Jack3d.
GenOne Old Jack is a complete clone of the original Jack3d.
Yes, you heard it. GenOne’s Old Jack is literally the same as the old Jack3d you used to love so dearly.
The only catch is, that is may not be around for long. Likewise, you NEED to check the ingredients, and watch out for V2 formulas which will not contain the DMAA. Be Diligent before you buy!
Old Jack Quick Review: In the realm of DMAA supplements, I personally really liked Old Jack. This is in comparison to other DMAA pre workouts like APS Mesomorph and Blackstone Dust Extreme. To me, Old Jack provided the same great DMAA experience, for literally half the price per serving. It also has less crash and tastes decent too. Just like the original USP Labs Jack3d.
Old Jack Full Review
Energy Effects 8.5/10
The energy (and really overall effects) of Old Jack is just like the original Jack3d. Just take one scoop and you’re ready to rock and roll in the gym. The energy isn’t crazy (unless you take two scoops), but it is very present and usable while you lift. A very good in-the-zone feel.
Strength Effects 8/10
GenOne Old Jack gives you your typical DMAA strength. Basically, it enhances the mind-muscle connection so you can force a little more out of your body, all while being able to isolate constrictions better. This isn’t like a pump, it’s completely different.
Endurance Effects 7/10
Old Jack isn’t exactly going to increase your endurance the way other endurance based products will… But as long as you stay hydrated the DMAA will give you more time in the gym.
Crash/Aftermath Effects 7.5/10
With DMAA products, the crash is very real just like in 300 mg+ pre workouts. However, compared to Mesomorph and Dust Extreme, Old Jack has far less of a crash and is much more forgiving. This is most likely due to more reasonable stimulant formulations not causing ‘overkill’ on your central nervous system.
Taste 8.5/10
Old Jack doesn’t taste bad at all. It’s a pretty small formula, so they’ve had an easy time flavoring it. I have the fruit punch flavor and have not been disappointed at all. In fact, while doing research for BWSB I frequently put 1/10th a serving in a full 8 oz glass of water to slowly drink and keep focus up (DMAA is similar in structure to Adderall).
Price/Value 10/10
Compared to other DMAA pre workouts, Old Jack wins in value by miles. Typically, DMAA pre workouts are nearly $50 for a lousy 20 servings. Old Jack completely flips this, providing 45 servings for around $35… Just like the original Jack3d!

Review Conclusion 8.25/10
If you want a DMAA pre workout, this is likely your best overall pick. The only trouble, is that you’re going to need to be able to find it. Then, when you find it, you need to make sure it’s the original and not a V2.
To be sure, check the back of the label and you should see 1.3-dimethylamylamine in there. If you don’t see it, then don’t buy it!
P.S – I got mine first from ebay, and then again a year later on A1Supplements. On the GenOne website, they’ve transitioned to purely V2 formulas which do not contain DMAA. This may be a liability thing, as that’s how it’s been for a while yet the original is still sold in other stores. Either way, be a speculative, investigative, and smart consumer. Also, if you need to – call to make sure you’re getting the right stuff.
Ingredients in Old Jack Pre Workout Catalyst
Proprietary blend (5.5 g) of: creatine monohydrate, beta-alanine, taurine, l-arginine, alpha-ketoglutarate, caffeine anhydrous, theophylline, 1,3-dimethylamylamine, and Schisandra extract.
Additional Information
Despite Old Jack’s tiny formula, it packs a serious punch thanks to the DMAA. When put side-by-side with other popular DMAA pre workouts, it’s a clear winner due to value and similar effects.
While it isn’t our preference to reach for DMAA pre workouts – it goes without saying that this is one of the best ones. At least while it stays on the market.
Note: we haven’t included Old Jack on our pre workout awards because it’s hard to find, and may disappear soon. Likewise, we still prefer our top ranking pre workouts over Old Jack.
This is because our top rated pre workouts contain equally effective clean energy formulas, with added endurance and muscle building properties. This is hard for any small-formula pre workout to compete with, and not something that DMAA makes up for when looked at long term.
